Mercedes City Commission approves library fee changes, several rezonings and utility ordinance amendments; denies multiple sponsorship requests
At the April 7, 2026 regular meeting, the Mercedes City Commission approved updates to library meeting room procedures and reduced rental fees; appointed a new library board member; approved a three-year PILOT with the Housing Authority; denied three sponsorship requests (including MISD scoreboard and America's Future Workforce Foundation) after legal review; approved street renaming process and a five-member committee to recommend options; approved multiple first-reading rezonings and amendments to utility-related ordinances (including a stipulation of no existing rate increases and application of impact fees to future development); changed Wells Fargo account signatories by resolution; extended the solid waste contract 90 days while soliciting bids; and ratified several interlocal agreements with Hidalgo County including library system, MVCPA Task Force, and the County elections agreement for the May 2026 election. The meeting included executive session items on personnel, litigation, and economic development with no subsequent action.
