City Council approves disaster debris contracts, legal action on beach vending; discusses bonfire ordinance and Gigapower work restrictions

At the June 2, 2025 regular meeting, Destin City Council awarded three-year pre-positioned disaster debris contracts, approved retention of outside counsel (with a $30,000 cap) to pursue enforcement against unauthorized beach vendors, considered initiating an ordinance to allow seasonal beach bonfires via approved vendors, approved several consent items, and announced bond and work restrictions for Gigapower after a recent waterline strike. The Council also approved a property agreement contingent on relinquishment of homestead status and heard public safety concerns about jet-ski activity.
